In this tutorial, we will show step by step creating process of the Robotic Wasp, our original model inspired by new modern technology and nature. It was created in PARTsolutions software and published on 3DfindIT.com portal. Mechanical parts are added to look unique and interesting. Our imagination has no limits, be inspired! Once the model was done and we were satisfied with the final result, it was time to render it in order to look realistic (last photo). Rendiring is a process where texture, light, color, materials and other elements can be added to a 3D model and achieve an effect of the real photo.
All parts are 3D printed and everything went smoothly. This process takes several hours. The biggest part is the body itself. We used yellow filament in order to spend less paint. Some cleaning of extra material is required before painting, so it is very important to prepare the surface of elements correctly.
Painting process: airbrush technique is used, because it is very easy and fast to apply paint. It took three thin layers to have it covered well and all parts are checked, just in case if some areas are not painted. Regarding the paint itself, it is an enamel paint Aztec Gold. Take your time and do not rush, have some fun!
All parts are painted and it looks good. We will leave it for some time to get dry (24 hours) and then we can continue with the next step. Meanwhile, it is important to decide what parts will be black and what parts will remain gold, so make a good plan before painting details in black. It already looks better!
Next step: painting black details. We used enamel paint, again, but this time the paint was applied by a regular brush, because it is much easier. This will take some time, so be patient. Find something to support your hand while painting with an ordinary brush and be careful, not to touch those freshly painted details.
Finally, everything is done, looks great, all parts are assembled and we can clear coat it now. First layer of clear coat will be very thing and, once it is dry, we can go with 2 medium layers of clear coat. Leave it for 24 hours to get dry. Important: you must wear a respirator mask! The Robotic Wasp is finished and we are happy with the final result. It is so fascinating that an idea from a head can be turned into a real model by using modern technology like 3D modeling and 3D printing, in this case. We hope you have found this step by step tutorial interesting, informative and inspiring. If you would like to download the Robotic Wasp for free, you can find it here and good luck with the project!
