Lithophane, Whale Rider
A lithophane print of a Whale Rider picture of my New Zealand trip in 2019/2020
This carving of Paikea, the whale rider, was made by the well-known East Coast carver Pine Taiapa. It sits at the roof apex of Whitirēia marae, built at the tiny East Coast community of Whāngārā in 1937. Paikea is the ancestor of the Ngāti Konohi sub-tribe.
The lithophane print hase a thickness of 3 mm
By placing a electric tea candles in the center, the printed pictures can be seen like a photograph
By hanging it in a window, the sun-light is doing the job of the electric candle

!! please use only electric tea candles or the sun as giving light!!
